How a WhatsApp button on your website works
A WhatsApp button is a link that opens a chat with your number. It needs your number in international format and, if you want, a message that is already typed. Customers tap once and are talking to you.

The link
The button uses a web address in this form: wa.me followed by your number with the country code and no plus sign, spaces or dashes. For an Indian number, that is 91 followed by the ten digits.
On a phone, the link opens the WhatsApp app with a chat to your number. On a laptop, it opens WhatsApp Web or asks the visitor to use the app.
A message already typed
You can add a text parameter to the link, so the chat opens with a message ready, for example the name of the page or product the visitor was on. The text is written in the link with spaces and special characters encoded. It saves the customer typing and tells you what they were looking at.
Where to put it
- At the top of every page, where a phone visitor can always reach it.
- Next to each product, service or project, with the name in the message.
- On your contact page, along with your phone number.
Do not hide it behind a form. People who want to talk to you want to do it in one tap.
Counting taps
Add tracking so each tap on the button counts as an enquiry. Then you can see which pages and which ads send people to message you. See analytics and conversion tracking.
WhatsApp Business
If you use the WhatsApp Business app, you can add a greeting, quick replies and a catalogue. These make replying faster, and they work with the same button.
